Lips

Brick red is the go-to color for this fall. If you love the red-lipped look but are afraid to go bold, opt for a lip stain, which offers a tinge of color without taking over your entire face.
Lisa Trunda, makeup artist at Ford Models Chicago, suggests dabbing lip stain on your lips with your fingers.
“It's very feminine," she says, “but doesn’t feel heavy.”
If you still can’t go without your gloss, apply a thin layer of gloss over the lip stain for some shine. This fall’s lip look is “strong, finished and defined, yet classy,” Trunda says.
Skip cherry and fire engine red, and instead, opt for tomato or brick lips like the ones shown at Valentino.

Eyes

Smoky eyes are still in, but have moved away from black to lighter shades of charcoal, navy and plum.
You’ll still need the requisite eyeliner, but consider buying a pencil in navy or plum for an unconventional edge.
We love Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Lust ($15 /
urbandecay.com). It’s super creamy, which is perfect for smudging, and dries to set in place. Plus, there’s a hint of sparkle for a purple, iridescent effect.
If you have dark circles under your eyes, smudge the eyeliner just on your top lid and skip the lower lashes – this will help to avoid accentuating any dark circles you already have.
Trunda suggests going for Yves Saint Laurent eye shadow in purple hues, like the ones shown in their new Ombres Quadrilumeres ($50 / Saks Fifth Avenue).
Skin

Natural with a luminous glow is what’s hot this coming season, so put your self-tanner and bronzer in your linen closet – and keep it there.
It’s still important to have a little shimmer.
“In Chicago, there’s such potential for the skin to look dry,” Trunda says, and suggests dabbing some rose cream blush on the top of the cheekbone to give a little color and shimmer at the same time.
“It makes you look young, healthy and fresh,” she adds.
To get that hint of shimmer on your face, opt for a foundation that contains light reflectors.
Try Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation ($55 /
giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com) – a classic piece in their collection that covers up what you don’t want, but keeps your face from looking too matte.
Eyebrows

Think Brooke Shields and Hilary Rohda (the new face of Estée Lauder) as roles models for eyebrows.
This fall calls for fuller, more plentiful eyebrows than we’ve seen before, with the brow extending just above the outer corner of your eye. Keeping them well groomed is important.
The look for eyes is “polished and more finished,” Trunda notes, and says bringing the arch out in your eyebrows is the key if you’re going to wear the smoky eye. “It’s a great way to polish up the face.”
One of the best ways to achieve a clean, even look is to have a custom fit stencil made just for your eyebrows.
“Full, clean, shaped brows will take you to a whole new beauty level,” says Claudia Martinez of Chicago’s
Roque Salon (24 W. Erie St. / 312-863-7678), who offers the service and calls on Anastasia as the ultimate eyebrow guru.
