Michael ~ David Winery is the product of six generations of Phillips' family winegrowers, specializing in hand-crafted Rhone varietals as well as Lodi’s famous Old Vine Zinfandels.

The History of Michael ~ David Winery

The history of the Lodi-Woodbridge region tells the story of men and women with skill, vision and the shared ideals of hard work and dedication. From its beginning, the Lodi-Woodbridge region has been highly respected for grape-growing. In 1850, amid the Gold Rush, Captain Charles Weber, founder of Stockton, California, brought grape cuttings to the area.

The Lodi Appellation region of California has approximately 75,000 acres of vineyards spread across a growing area covering roughly a half million acres of land. The Lodi region has had official recognition as an AVA since 1986. The highly productive region leads all California wine districts in the production of the state’s top five varietals - Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel.

Originally devoted to vegetables, the Phillips' farms evolved to include many different fruits, including 15 different wine varietals that were shipped throughout the country during Prohibition with instructions on "how not to have the grapes turn into wine.” Thereby, Prohibition was good for Lodi growers, with families everywhere keeping up the tradition of wine with meals by ordering these grapes and "juice" to be bottled at home.

Today, with 500 acres of premium wine grapes, there is plenty of room for experimentation and innovation. The vineyards are irrigated by the Mokelumne River, which carries crystal-clear water from the Sierra Nevada Mountains, depositing minerals into the rich soils upon which the grapes thrive.

Though not certified organic, Michael~David Winery strives to use all natural methods, including: integrated pest management, beneficial insects for pest control, trellising, leaf pulling and natural mined sulfur for mildew control.

A sinful blend indeed! Michael ~ David Winery’s flagship Zinfandel was devised by the two Phillips brothers in their search for a blended Zin so captivating that no one could refuse.

With consistency in mind, the brothers decided to blend the fruit of Lodi’s finest growers to fill the bottles of Michael ~ David’s new-fangled wine. In the end, seven vineyards were chosen for their superiority. Now, how do you label a wine so unique in style? Looking to their past, the two Phillips brothers quickly related the Seven Sins from their Catholic school upbringing to the seven Old Vine Zinfandels blended in their wine.

Lustful Flavors:

A vibrant, sweet bouquet of raspberry jam, molasses and cinnamon toast evoke the senses of carefree youthful nights. Excellent oak integration provides silken tannins and spice to pair with Lodi’s unrestricted wild berry fruit.

7 Heavenly Chards

With so many sins committed, Michael and David’s consciences were starting to wear thin. With redemption in mind, the two brothers thought long and hard for a way to clean the slate for their forsaken past. At first thought, confession seemed just. On second thought, a Chardonnay seemed to be the fix- a Heavenly Chard at that.

Seven Heavenly Chards serves as a sister bottling to the Seven Deadly Zins, offering a Chardonnay aged in seven different French barrels for seven months. Needless to say, Mike and Dave have been redeemed!

Simply Angelic:

Crisp Asian pear and delicate peach blossom lead into subtle hints of buttery toast and a zest of fresh lime on the finish.
