Cachaça: Brazil's National Spirit of Choice
Although Cachaça (pronounced ka-sha-sa) is commonly referred to as "Brazilian Rum" in the United States, don't be confused - it is anything but. Distilled in the fertile Minas Gerais region in the heart of Brazil, Leblon Cachaça is made from fermented and distilled fresh-pressed cane juice (Rum is typically made from molasses).
Cachaça is Brazil's national spirit, and often touted as the next Tequila. Leblon Cachaça is distilled using traditional methods combined with refined, old-world French wine-making techniques, courtesy of Leblon master distiller Gilles Merlet. Small batches of the Cachaça are made using copper potstills, then polished off in Cognac Casks for a smooth finish. The result is a complexly flavored and full-bodied spirit that is not only delicious on its own, but mixes well with mostly everything.
The Caipirinha: The Next Margarita
The Caipirinha (pronounced kai-pur-een-ya) - Brazil's national drink - requires art & skill to make properly. This delicious cocktail is a carefully balanced combination of Cachaça, muddled lime & sugar, served on the rocks. The Caipirinha can be adjusted based on varying likes & dislikes, as is the case with the Watermelon Smash Caipirinha or the Pineapple Mint Caipirinha, both delicious, fruity modifications of the classic cocktail. The Leblon Caipirinha
2 oz. Leblon Cachaça
2 tsp. superfine sugar or 1 oz. simple syrup
1/2 lime, cut into wedges
Muddle the lime and sugar in a shaker. Fill the shaker with ice and add Leblon Cachaça. Shake vigorously and serve in a rocks glass. Garnish with a lime wheel.
