What kind of designer does it take to make a great pair of jeans? Apparently, what it really takes is a regular guy. A young, jeans and t-shirt kind of guy with a Business & Finance degree, who left his job at Merrill Lynch to create the pair of jeans he’s always wanted for himself.
Stiles Anderson and his business partner CEO Glen Schwartz (an environmental clean-up consultant) recently launched bya Denim, a premium men’s and women’s denim label.
As the first Chicago-based denim brand, bya Denim foregoes fancy trims and embellishments in place of heavy attention to construction detail and fit, with emphasis on authentically created washes.
The result is a pure, raw jean that looks and feels perfectly worn-in the first time you put them on. The modern-yet-vintage style is meant to stand the test of time.
So what do these guys know about a woman’s body? What Stiles and Glen didn’t know, they learned – through extensive market research, numerous surveys and tips from the women in their own lives. Like that gap in the back of your waistband, the cause of constant torment? Non-existent in a pair of bya Denim jeans.
bya Denim’s Fall collection includes refined, authentic washes like the dark, crisp “4.6,” wash and “Supernova,” a smoked out indigo with tan-casted undertones. Great fits include the slimming silhouette of Ava, a women’s low-rise stovepipe perfect for rolling, tucking and looking lean, and the men’s Emmett, a 1960’s style boot cut.
Stiles and Glen have been working on this line of denim for close to two years, obsessing over every detail before settling on the 12 styles for men and women. Price: $185-$219.
