| Nestled between cascading trees and a small pond in Lincoln Park, North Pond is a culinary oasis. The restaurant, which was converted from an ice skaters warming house, overlooks the skyline but the bucolic setting makes you forget all about life in the big city.
The décor is designed in the arts and crafts style, placing the emphasis on the work of the craftsman and the material, without being overly ornamental. The restaurant is done in beautiful woods, stones and copper, making customers feel right at home at North Pond.
The menu is considered seasonal American, but according to Chef Bruce Sherman, it is actually contemporary French. Sherman always makes sure there is a beet salad and an egg dish on the appetizer menu. The current egg appetizer is creamy scrambled duck eggs served with morel mushroom cream and prosciutto-parmesean sticks.
The dinner menu offers several meat, fish and vegetarian selections, including rabbit. Customers who order the 5 or 6 course tasting menu will be brought a chef-selected series of dishes that are at their peak during that time.
Sherman believes strongly in sustainability and helping local farmers. Each bottle of wine purchased at North Pond sends $2 to a charity that contributes to preservation of food, food styles and sustainable ways.
